      Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) is the sole procurer of water and power within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and beyond, with the mandate to ensure the supply of water and power to consumers. EWEC is part of ADQ, one of the region’s largest holding companies with a diverse portfolio of major enterprises spanning key sectors of Abu Dhabi’s non-oil economy. EWEC was formed in November 2018, succeeding the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Company (ADWEC).

Al Nouf 1 Independent Power Producer (IPP) Project

Al Nouf 1 will be the largest single-site carbon-capture-ready Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) plant in the UAE. The plant will provide additional flexibility during periods of peak power demand, helping ensure security of supply as Abu Dhabi and the UAE accelerate their energy transition.

Located in the newly established Al Nouf Complex, a coastal site strategically designated to become a hub for power and water production in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the plant is expected to reach commercial operations in Q3 2029. At full capacity, Al Nouf’s efficient natural-gas turbine technology will generate 3.3 gigawatts (AC).

As an Independent Power Producer (IPP) project, the successful developer or developer consortium will own up to 40 per cent of the entity. The remaining equity will be held indirectly by the Abu Dhabi Government.
